First Source Federal Credit Union serves more than 30,000 members throughout Central New York, so company officials said an expansion is "the next logical step."

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the credit union's Rome branch was held Wednesday afternoon, with a big turnout despite the soggy weather Coastal Federal Credit Union

The new branch will be located on Black River Boulevard and will be the credit union's fifth branch. First Source officials said they are excited about the project and say the community is responding in a positive way.

"We're very excited about being a part of the community in Rome," said President and CEO Mike Parsons. "Everyone we have worked with in the city has been spectacular to work with. We think it's a great location for us. It's nice and visible and a lot of traffic, so we know it'll do very well."

The Rome branch is expected to open later this year and will hire eight employees.
