harvard business publishing I noticed that my alma mater, the Harvard Business School, started publishing articles and books in 2001 on emotional intelligence in leadership. I recommend to you my favorite of HBS Press, Primal Leadership: Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence, by Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis, and Annie McKee. A shorter, good publication from HBS Press is: "Best of HBR on Leadership: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership" - A Harvard Business Review Collection of 3 articles by Daniel Goleman.

These articles are incorporated into the content of the above book so you get all you need from the book. To order, contact the Harvard Business School Press. business news articles

This book and the articles describe dozens of ways that emotional intelligence (EI) is crucial for top performance of leaders and for business results. Many examples are given, such as how EI can create an organizational culture that attracts and retains good leaders. If you are concerned with retention, read this book. business articles 2011

Harvard obviously sees the value of EI for leaders. I got wise way back in 1972 during my MBA studies at Harvard Business School. Professors repeatedly asserted that interpersonal skills are what make the executive, not technical skills. Now we realize that leaders also need other EI competencies to be successful, such as self-awareness and empathy. These allow them to manage their own emotions and others' effectively to create productive organizational cultures.

The above HBS book and articles give you many helpful ideas about how to increase your leadership effectiveness.
